B'day Special -Tandoori Chicken

B'day Special -Tandoori Chicken
For a very long time I wanted to prepare these tasty spicy North Indian Starters: Tandoori Chicken but always end up doing something else. I got a chance to prepare these for my hubby's b'day on 19th Augest 2009 -a day before his actually birthday as normally we don't have non-veg on our birthdays. It was a collection of my hubby's favorite recipe as a birthday present from me. We had a some dinner gathering with my brothers for his birthday and it was a memorable day for all of us as one of my brother VJ is moving to Ashburn soon for his job transfer-a sent off party too- just like killing two birds with one stone.

1.Tandoori Chicken

Ingredients

Serving Size: 5

1 whole chicken cut into 16 pcs
1 tsp of kashmiri red chilli powder
2 tbsp of lemon juice
Salt to taste

For Marination:
1 cup well beaten fresh yogurt
1 tspn of kashmiri red chilli powder
Salt to taste
2tbsp ginger garlic paste
2 tbsp of lemon juice
½ tsp of garam masala powder
2 tbsp ghee
a drop of red food coloring
butter for basting
½ tspn of chaat masala

For garnishing
Onion rings and lemon wedges

Preparation Methods:
Skin, wash and clean the chicken. Make incisions with a sharp knife on breast and leg pieces. Apply a mixture of kashmiri red chilli powder, lemon juice and salt to the chicken and keep it aside for half an hour.In a another bowl mix kashmiri red chilli powder, salt, ginger-garlic paste, lemon juice, garam masala powder, red food color and ghee to the yogurt.Apply this marinade onto the chicken pieces and refrigerate for three to four hours.Put the chicken onto the skewers and cook in a moderately hot tandoori or a pre-heated oven for ten to twelve minutes or until almost done. Baste it with butter and cook for another four minutes.Sprinkle chaat masala powder and serve with onion rings and lemon wedges.

This is one of hubby's specialty and he really makes them very spicy and peppery all the time. A taste bud of Singaporeans and a very popular dish in Singapore among locals and tourist All his friends really love his Pepper Crab..lucky to have hubby who can cook once in a blue moon but knows what's he's cooking and best in it...

3.Chicken Rice

Another taste bud of Singapore too and the favorite dish of my bother VJ. Whenever he's home he expect this to be prepare for him: sometime I feel why I prepare this for him in the first place when I came to USA in 2007 end..but very happy that he likes them and demands to be prepared for him when he visit us..

A very unforgettable birthday celebration for the entire family where we really enjoyed the closeness as family and the love among us..even if we are far apart for each other.VJ if you happen to read this post just remember that your are alway in our mind and will be praying for well-being and health.
