Toor Dhal Curry
"I'm stuffed and full with all the non-veggie items you have being consuming for the holiday my dear",cried my tummy."I want to taste some Traditional South Indian Food", begged my tongue. Actually I have forgotten about simple comfort food for sometime as my mind is set on trying out new dishes and still in Thanksgiving Spirit and looking forward for Christmas Holidays.My mind was asking" Have you forgotten the first course in traditional South Indian Meal consist of paruppu ,kulambu and yogurt with steaming rice topped with ghee and accompanied by spicy pickles- yummy yum yum". Well what else could be compared to a simply comforting Tuvaram Paruppu Masiyal!!!
Ingredients
Serving Size: 4
1 cup toor dhal
1 large tomatoes
1/2 cup finely minced shallots
5 garlic cloves
1/2tsp turmeric powder
1/2tsp sambar powder
salt to taste
a pinch of hing powder
For tampering:
a sprig of curry leaves
1/2tsp mustard seeds
1/2tsp cumin seeds
few dried red chillies broken
chopped coriander leaves
Preparation Methods:
Add 1tsp caster oil in a wok and fry the toor dhal till browned. Transfer the dhal to a pressure on medium flame with all the remaining ingredients and 3 cups of warm water. Pressure cook to about 5 whistle. Wait for the pressure to be released. Transfer the mixture a large bowl. Using a spatula mash the dhal til soft. Splutter the tampering ingredient in 1tsp oil and pour over the dhal mixture. Garnished with finely chopped coriander leaves.
